6 Items to Transition to Fall

Happy First Day of Fall! I can’t believe how quickly this year is going by! It’s still fairly warm here in North Carolina, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t already started gearing up for fall and cooler weather. Since it’s that weird transition time between seasons (especially in the South), I have summarized my 6 wardrobe staples that help make the change a little bit more bearable. I also wrote a post about this last year (Surviving fall in the South), which you can view here.

OTKBoots

I absolutely love the look of pairing over-the knee boots with a short mini skirt or a short dress. Since it’s still warm, I can show off some leg but the tall boots still give off the fall vibes. I especially love these boots I snagged from the Nordstrom sale. I think they are the perfect color and go with just about everything!

DarkFlorals

Ok, ok I know I am beating a dead horse. I have posted multiple times about wearing dark florals, specifically in my most recent post, and with this crop top post but I honestly can not stop wearing dark florals for some reason?! Whether it be dresses, tops, or even pants I have been wearing dark florals on repeat for the past few weeks.

cutoutsweaters

I’m going to be honest, when I first saw the cut out sweater trend over the summer, I thought to myself “that’s dumb… what is the point of wearing a sweater to keep warm if there are cut-outs in it?” Well, joke is on me because I am currently LIVING in them! This is the perfect staple to take you from summer to fall. The cut-outs give you some air to breathe, but the sweater says ‘fall’ all over it.

lightweightFlannel

I am and have always been obsessed with flannel for fall. There is just something about flannel and the patchwork patterns that scream bonfires, cozy blankets and hot chocolate. The only problem with flannel is that it keeps you REALLY warm. I know that’s the point, but when you are living in the south, that’s the last thing you want to be wearing in late September and early October.

Now let me introduce light-weight flannel; it looks like a regular flannel top, but the material is MUCH more breathable. My favorite item as of late is this Free People button up that I got on sale. ( I also love this one from Levi’s). I love the over-sized fit and I have even been wearing it as a jacket over dresses. When I get hot, I just take it off and tie it around my waist! (It’s funny how I used to make fun of my mo for tying things around her waist and now look at me!)

DistressedDenim

Similar to cut-out sweaters, distressed denim is also a great look for fall. Much to my father’s disappointment who always asks “did you actually buy your pants like that?” or “you spent money on those pants?” HAHA Sorry dad! They are “in” right now. But in all seriousness, distressed denim is a perfect transition piece, because you have the cut outs to let you breathe a little, but you still have your legs covered to keep you warm when the temps drop.

PeepToeBooties

Last but not least, are my new favorite shoe trend: peep-toe booties. I guess I can’t really call this a trend because I wore them ALL the time last year between summer and fall. However, they are definitely worth investing in, so they made the list. I love styling them with shorts and a light weight sweater for the perfect fall transition look. I’ve also been styling them with distressed skinny jeans. The peep-toe still hints at summer but the bootie says all fall!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
