2018 Nordstrom Sale – My Top Picks

Today the Nordstrom Sale (NSale) finally went live to the public! So I wanted to share my top 15 purchases that I made from the sale. I already shared my beauty picks earlier this week, and you can view them here.

Most of the items included in the sale are fall items, which has me super excited for cooler temperatures (as I sit here in the 92 degree heat)! Quick note… a lot of items have unfortunately sold out… I don’t ever remember things selling out this quickly during last year’s sale but I did notice last year that Nordstrom tends to restock items randomly so keep checking back!

I also did my best to choose my top items from ones that are still in stock ❤

ONE: Long Sleeve Tee – For this long sleeve top, I thought $29 was a steal, but then I saw that it was marked down to only $18 and I couldn’t pass it up. This will be a great basic piece for the fall and it also comes in black! Top fits tight but true to size.
$18.90 (originally $29)

TWO: STS Blue Emma High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans – You can’t really go wrong with a good pair of denim for $39 and these are really great quality. Another perfect basic for fall. I’ve also really started leaning toward higher waist styles and love the fit on these, which is true to size.
$38.90 (originally $59)

THREE: BP. Varsity Stripe Sweater – This is a great casual piece and for only $25, I couldn’t say no! I would pair this with some skinny jeans and black booties for a casual dinner OR dress it down with some black leggings and a pair of casual sneakers. Oversized fit but true to size.
$25.90 (originally $39)

FOUR: Leith Rib Wrap Sweater – I really like the style of this top and the soft, lavender color is gorgeous on! The ribbed detail also gives it a dressier look. Fit is true to size.
$39.90 (originally $59)

FIVE: Zella Madison Tank – Ok, how adorable is the back of this top. I always say that cute workout gear motivates me to work out more often and now I’ll have another reason to! I also purchased this strappy Zella bra with it, but unfortunately it’s sold out. I also like the lower-cut arm holes to keep me cool during this July heat wave! Fit is loose but true to size.
$25.90 (originally $39)

SIX: BP. Stitch Curve Hem Cardigan – I got a lot of basic colored cardigans from last year’s sale, so I went a little bolder with this Pink Cedar color. I love the pockets and the curved detail and is also a great color for fall. I can’t wait to pair this with a white top, some skinnies and my leopard flats for some flare 🙂  I went a size down from my normal size for a tighter and shorter fit in the sleeves.
$31.90 (originally $49)

SEVEN: WAYF Plunging Knot Front Top – I was a little unsure about this top when I initially ordered it, but the fit is super flattering. It’s also great for work with a pair of black slacks, but I could also see me wearing it with some denim cutoffs and platform sandals. Fit is true to size.
$45.90 (originally $69)

EIGHT: Ribbed Body-Con Minidress – This dress was a steal for $30! I was debating between the black or olive color, but ended up going with the black. This is a staple piece for fall. I can see myself dressing it down with a plaid flannel and my Chuck Taylor’s or dressing it up with some patterned pumps for a night out. (I sized down for a tighter fit)
$29.90 (originally $45)

NINE: Leith Tie Front Pant – I purchased these pants because they are unlike anything else I own. Not only do I love the color, but they are work friendly and the high-waist is super slimming, which is always a great bonus! I went with my normal size for these, but the legs are a little long so I will probably need to get them hemmed.
$45.90 (originally $69)

TEN: BP. Plaid Shirt – This is another great basic. I am a sucker for a good flannel and the $32 price tag tempted me to purchase in every color. However, the green just stuck out to me and is gorgeous for fall with some black legging (see Spanx below) and nude boots. Fits true to size. Size up for a bigger/boy fit.
$31.90 (originally $49)

ELEVEN: Chelsea28 Lace Yoke Top: I originally fell in love with the intricate lace detail on this top, but I also like the Rust Cider color, which is perfect for fall! True to size.
$45.90 (originally $69)

TWELVE: Spanx Faux Leather Leggings – I’ve always wanted to try a pair of Spanx leggings because I’ve heard such great reviews, but with a $100 price tag, I was reluctant. So imagine how happy I was when I saw these on sale… I can’t wait to try them and hopefully they live up to the hype 🙂
$64.90 (originally $98)

THIRTEEN: Caslon Aiden Wedge Sneaker – This is the perfect casual sneaker. I got these in black but I almost wish I had gotten them in the Taupe color. Here’s to hoping they come back in stock in my size! Also, how adorable is the perforated detail?!
$79.90 (originally $119.95)

FOURTEEN: Nike Free RN 2018 Running Shoe – I definitely needed a new pair of running shoes (mine are about 3 years old) and I’ve had my eyes on this pair for a while. I love Nike for running shoes specifically and I am obsessed with this “Rose/Gunsmoke” color! (Also comes in a cargo khaki color)
$74.90 (originally $100)

FIFTEEN: Vince Camuto Pevista Bootie – I have found that flat booties are so much more practical than my heeled booties, so I ordered these! I love the moto-inspired detail, which makes this shoe so unique.
$99.90 (originally $149.95)

Would love to hear from all of you what you’re shopping today and what your favorites are?! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend and happy shopping!

2018 Nordstrom Sale – Beauty Picks

Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing weekend! In case you haven’t heard, early access to Nordstrom’s annual NSale began on Thursday, July 12. The early access is for card holders only, but public access begins on July 20. The sale ends and prices increase on August 6! I think this year is even BETTER than last year and I am so excited to share with you my top beauty picks in today’s post.

If you do not have a card and would like to apply to gain early access, you can do so here. To see everything that’s included in this year’s sale, you can view the look book here.

Also, (side note) a lot of clothing items have already “sold out,” however, Nordstrom holds on to some of that inventory for when the sale goes public and will periodically restock throughout the 3 and a half week sale.

ONE: Kiehl’s Jumbo Creme de Corps Bottle with Pump – The BEST lotion ever! I always buy a new one during the Anniversary sale and the jumbo bottle lasts me a full year.
$52 (originally $75)

TWO: Sara Happ The Lip Expert Coconut Set – This two piece lip treatment comes with a coconut scrub to exfoliate your lips and then a Luxe Lip Balm to hydrate! This will leave your lips feeling so smooth!
$32 (originally $46)

THREE: T3 White and Chrome Cura Hair Dryer – I’ve had this hair dryer for about 3 years now and it’s completely worth the investment! I naturally have dry hair and it helps reduce frizz and maintains the shine.
$134 (originally $200)

FOUR: T3 Grey SinglePass Curl 1.25″ Curling Iron – This is definitely on my wishlist. I love T3 products and purchased their interchangeable wand during last year’s sale and I use it all the time. Would love to try their new curling iron!
$107 (originally $160)

FIVE: Skinny Dip Pink + Rose Gold Manicure Set – My mom got me a similar set about 6 years ago for Christmas and I STILL have it. I take it with me everywhere. It can easily fit it in my purse and those scissors come in handy more times than you would think!
$23 (originally $42)

SIX: Charlotte Tilbury Pretty Pink Lipstick Set – This is also on my wishlist. I have heard really great things about Charlotte Tilbury products and this sale is the perfect opportunity to try more expensive products at a lower price!
$60 (originally $90)

SEVEN: Voluspa Maison Blanc Two -Wick Tin Candle Set – I also got a set of these from last year’s sale and I STILL have not burned through all of them (only 1). However, these candles smell amazing and make the best gifts!
$29.50 (originally $48)

EIGHT: Alterna Caviar Set – I’ve heard amazing things about this shampoo and I am so excited to try it and see if it lives up to the hype! Before I order the larger set though, I am doing the trail size to make sure I like it.
$72 (originally 114)

NINE: Iluminage Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase –  I am really excited to get this in the mail. I have always wanted to try these pillowcases and it’s much cheaper than the other pillowcase included in the sale (which is $110)!
$39 (originally $60)

TEN: Nars Undressed Liquid Lip Set II – I love NARS lip brand, they are definitely worth the money and last all day! I feel like the colors in this kit are great everyday basics and I’m excited to try some new ones at a discount 🙂
$49 (originally $104)

ELEVEN: Impressions Vanity Co. Touch Trifold XL Dimmable LED Makeup Mirror – So I have never actually owned a nice makeup mirror and I am so excited to try this out. I was debating between this one and a smaller version (both included in the sale). If this one is too big than I may just exchange for the smaller one.
$58.90 (originally $89)

Any other beauty favorites you’ve found in the sale that aren’t in my top 11? Leave me a comment -I’d love to try them out! I’ll be following up later this week with some of my favorites from the sale in activewear, clothing and accessories!

Home for the Holidays

One of the best things about the holidays are being with family and friends. I am so fortunate to have a loving, close-knit family and friends who are like sisters and aunts/uncles, etc. This year was a little bit different… we have a lot of big things coming up in the next year:

  • My parents put our house on the market, so this is probably the last holiday we will spend in our house -which is bittersweet. While I am happy for my parents to take the next steps into retiring, I am still a little sad because of all the amazing memories we have made there.
  • My brother is GETTING MARRIED! In June, and in Denver and I am SO excited to add another sister to our family 🙂
  • My sister is GRADUATING COLLEGE and starting pharmacy school -she has always been super smart and ambitious and I am so excited for her to start this new journey where I know she will ROCK!

So I think there will be a lot changes going on in this upcoming year! This holiday weekend was the perfect way to celebrate all of the changes, reminisce and catch up with each other. After getting home late Wednesday night, my sister and I woke up early Thursday to go to the mall and do some last minute shopping. (Yes we are crazy and we braved the crowds). Once we were done, we indulged in some pampering and my mom, sister, grandma and I went to get our nails done.

Josh got in late Thursday night and of course we had to indulge in a game of cards.

Friday was our Christmas cookie day! Every year we make these adorable Santa Claus cookies. It’s a tradition that my mom did as a kid with her family and it has been passed on to us kids. We definitely made a mess in the kitchen, but it was so worth it! Everyone loves these cookies and how can you resist they are just so cute! Definitely a lot of work but after doing this for the past few years we have it down to a fool-proof routine.

Christmas Eve morning we all had a big breakfast and helped my mom get ready for Christmas Eve dinner. The kitchen and dining room was a mad house -cooking and rearranging tables, chairs and making sure the place settings were perfect. Overall it turned out pretty nice – I think. My mom is always such a good host and the food did not disappoint.

We always have our good family friends over for Christmas Eve dinner before we go to church. This year there were 12 of us so we had a big table setting which my mom did such a nice job on… one day I hope to be half the hostess she is!

Before everyone came over for dinner we did some gift exchanging (we always open 1 present on Christmas Eve) and this year we let my parents in on the tradition.

So my mom spent ALL summer working on these Santa Claus cross-stitch ornaments and they turned out so great! It was such a thoughtful and sentimental gift knowing she put in all that time and effort and I will truly cherish it.

We also decided to get my parents a wine cooler! They LOVED it! My dad has a big bar he put in our basement and my mom loves wine so this gift was perfect for them… I am actually surprised that they never had one before.

Then of course before church (and thankfully before dinner, where I stuffed my face) we took our traditional family pictures in front of the fire place. (It’s a growing joke between friends and family that you are really important if you get to take a picture in front of our fireplace).

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After the candlelight church service we came back home and our family friends also came back for some desserts and spirits (my dad always makes a special holiday drink). Then the anticipation for Christmas morning set in!

I am so grateful that our family is able to have a nice Christmas. As I have gotten older, the presents aren’t as important -but it is still nice that we are able to do nice things for each other. Before opening any presents, we always have to take our annual “sitting on the stairs” picture… it’s funny how much those pictures have change over the years (we all used to be able to fit on one step).

One of my favorite gifts that I gave this year was a hand painted picture of our house to our parents. Since this was likely our last Christmas there, I wanted to give something to my parents to take a piece of our home with them wherever they go. This was such a beautiful painting -my friends did an amazing job from the 3 pictures that I sent her and I know my parents really appreciated it. (My mom did get a little teary eyed, which you can kind of see in the picture -sorry mom)!

Overall we had a great day and a great weekend. I am so happy my entire family was able to make it home safely so we could all celebrate together. It’s also great to always have my grandma there too! Grandparents are such a precious gift and mine is no exception! She always makes our day just a little bit sweeter 🙂

I hope everyone else had a healthy and happy holiday spend with lots of love, laughter and food! And cheers to a happy New Year!

Faves Under $50 – Sweater Edition

Sweater weather is better weather! Ok, so maybe I don’t necessarily believe that ALL the time but it sounds good, right?

It’s gotten a lot colder down here in North Carolina over the past week and I have found myself digging through my closet searching for sweaters, ponchos, cardigans and cover ups. I have also been budgeting to buy some new cozy pieces to keep me warm and I have found A TON of affordable options.

Check out some of my favorite sweaters below… the best part is that they are all UNDER $50! With pieces like these, you can stay stylish (and warm) this November without emptying your wallet! 🙂

So if you haven’t done your winter shopping yet, I just shared 10 affordable options to bulk up your wardrobe. A lot of these websites and stores (like Old Navy, Gap and SheIn) have A TON of other sweater/cardigan options, but these just happened to be my favorite.

Are there any other stores you shop at with affordable winter clothing options?? I would love to hear about them!

Falling for Old Navy

Old Navy recently opened a new location at the local mall, so of course I had to go check it out! You can find some amazing deals at Old Navy, and their fashion designers have done an amazing job bringing us the latest up to date styles at affordable prices. Their latest fall line is so swoon-worthy I found myself trying just about EVERYTHING on. Not to mention, they usually are always having some sort of sale that makes shopping there so much more enjoyable for me (and my wallet)!

I was able to snag 2 gorgeous dresses that I can wear for a casual outing, or dress them up for work with a blazer. I was also able to pick up a denim jacket for under $35! I really needed an update to my denim jacket that I currently had (it was a distressed one from Hollister that I got in high school probably like 10 years ago). <Insert embarrassed emoji face here>. It’s great quality too and I LOVE the color (perfect in between -not too dark and not to washed out). Every girl should own a jean jacket -especially for fall. I wear mine ALL THE TIME whenever I put on a dress… and once it gets colder, it will look so cute with over the knee boots.

Dress: Old Navy, $15 (extra 30% off with code THANKYOU)
Jacket: Old Navy, $36 (extra 30% off with code THANKYOU)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell, $144 (similar, similar)
Ring: Baublebar, $38 (similar)
Bracelets: Bourbon & Boweties, $16+
Earrings: Baublebar, $36 (similar for $15)
Watch: Kate Spade, gift (similar, similar)

Check out some of my other favorite Old Navy finds below:

Coat, $69  ||  Poncho, $22  ||  Leggings, $19  ||  Plaid Vest, $36  ||  Short Booties, $44  ||  Jeans, $34  ||  Scarf, $16  ||  V-Neck Sweater, $29  ||  Tall Booties, $44  ||  Hat, $22  ||  Long Sleeve Tee, $29  ||  Fur Vest, $34

Also FYI… Old Navy is having a HUGE sale this weekend so now is the perfect time to shop! Card holders get an extra 40% off and non-card members still get 30% off their entire purchase! If you are shopping online make sure to use the code THANKYOU. And you are welcome 🙂 I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday!

11 Tips to Shopping a Sale

Just because something is on sale, doesn’t make it less fashionable.

Fourth of July weekend is almost here! And of course in the retail world, that means numerous sales. However, shopping these “sales” can sometimes get you in trouble and have you spending a lot more money than you normally would. If you plan to shop this weekend, I have 11 tips to help you shop savvy and score big without breaking the bank.

  1. Make a List
    • If you haven’t gone through your closet in a while, now is the perfect time. Get rid of clothes that don’t fit, clothes you don’t wear and/or are out of style and clothes that aren’t in good condition. For tips on cleaning out your closet, view Tips for Cleaning Your Closet. This will give you a good idea of what you don’t have and what you need. It’s good to make a list to keep you from purchasing things you don’t need and gives you specific items to focus on while shopping.
  2. Plan ahead
    • Plan what stores you want to go to ahead of time and find out what kind of sales they are having. This will keep you from entering other stores where you don’t need anything and wasting your time/money. It also helps to know which time of year to shop certain sale items -such as shopping the end of a season. It’s a good rule of thumb to buy winter clothes in March and Summer clothes in October (if you need them).
  3. Do your research online
    • Browse these stores online to give you an idea of what you will be looking for. It’s nice to shop online and see the store’s merchandise without a salesperson bothering you and trying to sell you on something you don’t need. Also check online coupon sites (such as couponcabin.com and retailmenot.com) to see if there are any additional coupons you can tack on to your purchase. Sometimes this may require signing up for a store’s emails (you can always unsubscribe later).
  4. Set a Time Frame
    • Set a time frame for your shopping outing. This will keep you from wandering aimlessly and ending up in a store where you will probably spend money on something that you probably don’t need. I like to set a lunch/dinner date at a certain time to keep me in check.
  5. Create a Budget
    • Yes, I said it: budget. Having a budget is NOT a bad thing! After assessing your needs, the stores you will go to and their sales, create a realistic budget that makes you comfortable and is realistic to your lifestyle. Now stick to it!
  6. Pay in Cash
    • Take your budget out of your bank account in cash. It’s been proven time and again that shoppers tend to spend more if they are paying with plastic.
  7. Go Alone
    • Shopping with friends tends to lead us to purchase things we don’t really want. Friends tend to make us feel better about making larger, more expensive purchases. This will lead you to bring home items you don’t really need and blowing your budget. If you do decide to take someone, make sure they are honest and aware of your budget ahead of time.
  8. Know the Return Policy
    • Every store is different. For example, a lot of jewelry stores don’t even take returns and will only give you store credit. With clearance, a lot of other stores have different policies from their normal ones (usually shorter time periods to get your money back). It’s always good to be aware of each store’s policy just in case something doesn’t work out.
  9. Don’t Buy It Just Because It’s On Sale
    • This is my most important tip. Impulse buys lead to buyer remorse. You may buy a shirt you don’t really need because it WAS $60 but NOW it’s only $20. Keep in mind that $20 here, and $30 there quickly adds up. Keep your receipts for these purchases, in the event that you change your mind.
  10. Be Patient
    1. Take your time! If you aren’t finding something on your list that you LOVE, it’s okay to wait. I am a list person myself, and I LOVE crossing things off my list. I remember a time several years ago that I bought something I didn’t love just because it was on sale and I needed to cross it off my list. I ended up getting little use out of the item because I wasn’t in love with it. What’s worse, is the next time I went shopping I found that same exact item back on my list.
  11. Don’t Shop When You Are Upset
    1. Just like you’ve heard not to grocery shop when you are hungry, don’t shop when you are upset or emotional. This can lead to “over-shopping” and buying things you don’t need. There is an instant (but fleeting) gratification you feel when you buy something. Being upset or emotional can lead to more purchases that will make you feel better in the meantime, but end up regretting later.

When in doubt on whether or not to purchase something, refer back to my $10 rule. Hopefully these tips will have you shopping smarter and saving money!

Check back later this week to see a list of my favorite stores and deals they are having over the weekend!

My $10 Rule

You’re out shopping with some girlfriends just for fun (nothing in particular) and you find this gorgeous dress for $150. You don’t know when you will wear it but it’s so beautiful you just HAVE to have it. This happens to us all the time! Is this dress REALLY worth the price you’re going to pay?

Take the price of something you are thinking about purchasing. Divide it by the number of times you KNOW you will wear it. If that price is $10 or under, it’s a good investment and you will get your money’s worth. Under $15 is also reasonable if your budget allows. Anything over $25 is simply not worth it. This goes for jewelry and accessories too.

I understand that sometimes there will be exceptions to this rule (I have definitely broken it before) but it all depends on your budget and how much you are willing to spend. My $10 rule is mostly applied to everyday staples such as a white dress shirt, a nice pair of denim jeans or a plain black dress for work.

Special events such as weddings and graduations may call for a higher price point and that’s perfectly fine but it’s all about BALANCE. Applying this rule while shopping definitely prevents last minute impulse buys and also eliminates buyers remorse.

Here are some of my favorite investment pieces that are totally worth it –(your go to plain top, diamond studs, a black blazer, little black dress and the perfect pair of jeans).

(comes in 12 colors)!  |  Two  |  Three  |  Four  |  Five

P.S. This rule also applies to men who are wardrobe shopping… be sure to share!

Happy shopping!
